2004 |
We'll get this section linked up, soon. Over the next seven months, we shared a lot. A Gulf Coast Getaway in Florida, moving Patrick to a new apartment, our first Valentine’s day, a couple of “firsts” for Patrick’s birthday party–-his first party with friends and his first surprise party!--(planned and organized by Allison), The Passion, Lipscomb's Singarama, a visit with Patrick’s family, Easter fun (and the bunny suit) with Allison’s cousins in Nashville, a fun trip to the zoo with Nathan and Bailie (the kids she nannied) and Patrick’s graduation from Lipscomb University in May of 2004. The summer of 2004 brought its own special joys and challenges. First, Allison led a mission trip to the Village of Hope in Ghana (West Africa) in May. During this period of time with little contact, we both became more certain of how important our relationship was. We greatly missed being able to talk on a daily (or several-times-daily) basis. The difficulty of being apart re-affirmed the blessing of being together. After returning from Ghana, Allison started her children's ministry internship at the White Station church in Memphis. We were still apart, but at least we could talk regularly by phone. We had the opportunity to attend the weddings of four close friends (Jesse Savage & Jessica Stephenson in Toledo, Ohio and Bart Norman & Kristen Nelson in Nashville, TN), and Patrick made a couple of visits to Memphis over the summer. This summer season also saw Allison's father's parents move out of their home and into a retirement community. October 12, 2004 was the 25th wedding anniversary of Allison's parents, Sonny and Karen. Jeffrey, Kera and Allison organized a surprise party for them. Patrick met Allison's brother Jeff for the first time this weekend. When the Hubbards returned to the Memphis airport from a celebratory trip, the Hubbard children were there to greet and surprise them, and let them know that dozens of their closest friends had gathered to celebrate their anniversary. Later that month, we organized a Halloween party for the Otter Creek college group, the highlight of which was the Pumpkin Games! In November, we joined Nick and Janet Winn (Patrick's Nashville "foster family" and dear friends) and all their family for a Thanksgiving meal. We also saw The Polar Express in IMAX 3D...which is a wholly terrifying experience!! The most significant event of this season may have been the beginning of our scrapbook. Good idea, Allison! We began it on our first dating anniversary, and keep a record of our time and activities together. |
